In 1995 Kathryn Duffy left the employ of Bank of Ireland to pursue a career of her own in the weight loss industry.  She started up a slimming Clinic in Galway.  All her life she wanted to work for herself and she felt that this was the right time to make that break.  

She formed “Inches Slimming Clinic” and concentrated on targeting men in Ireland.  At that time there was nowhere for men to go and feel comfortable if they wanted to lose weight.  Kathryn purchased some electronic muscle stimulation machines which helped people to tone and lose inches around the body.  After a period of time she discovered that she could not help people who had more than two stone in weight to lose. 

Accidentally Kathryn discovered the NuTron Food intolerance test, which identified foods that the person was intolerant to thus causing an inflammatory response within the body.  The result was fantastic!  She lost weight instantly while eating as much as she wanted of particular foods.  No calorie counting – great!!  Not alone did she lose weight but her overall health and energy levels improved significantly.  

Kathryn Duffy's little business was ticking away nicely all that year and was quickly becoming the place for men to come to for help in losing weight.  In Dec '95 disaster struck when her clinic disappeared overnight due to a gas explosion!  Up in Smoke!  Gone literally! What to do next?  

The following three months was taken up with rebuilding the clinic but that left Kathryn under pressure financially.  She had nothing left but the NuTron diet to generate funds to start again and that is exactly what she did.  Kathryn had to think outside the box because she couldn’t afford advertising and she offered the manager of the Galway hurling team at the time, three tests for his players to enhance their fitness levels. The manager, Mattie Murphy and two of his selectors took her up on the offer.  Mattie lost two and a half stone in two months, Paul the trainer lost two stone and Jarlath the third, lost one.  The Connacht Tribune did an article on them soon after and off it went like a forest fire! Suddenly everyone wanted to feel better and lose weight.

Within a year and a half Kathryn Duffy had set up three of her own clinics and 21 franchisees. She had thirty people working with her directly and 300 indirectly. There were two topics of conversation in the pubs and clubs of Ireland and they were, one, property and the other was the NuTron diet and Wellness Programme.

After five years and 82,000 people doing the programme in Ireland the stress and pressure of running such a large successful company took its toll on me and my health and on the 25th of May 99’ Kathryn was admitted to hospital with a Pulmonary Embolism (clot in the lung) followed six months later by two bleeds in the brain, stroke, brain surgery and losing the use of her right side!  When the doctor in Galway told her this, all she could think about was her three small children at home.  Who would rear them?  Immediately after that the priest came to anoint her and it was then Kathryn knew that she was in a spot of bother!

She was taken to Beaumont hospital by ambulance with a doctor accompanying her ( they expected her to die on the way) and her husband Paul was given a 10% chance of my survival before the surgery and guaranteed that if Kathryn did survive the surgery, she would be in Rehabilitation afterwards learning how to walk, talk and basically do everything again!  A few days prior to that she was visited by a friend from Cork, Gerry, who brought a Padre Pio relic and he blessed her and everyone else in the high intensity ward.  Now Kathryn wanted to let you into a little secret……she wouldn’t have called herself a very religious person at the time but when in the situation that she was in, and there is nobody that can help, including the neurosurgeon. Her life was hanging in the balance.  Kathryn's eldest brother had died a few years earlier from a brain haemorrhage and she knew what was ahead of her. She have no doubt that Padre Pio intervened because she was at home eight days after the brain surgery, walking and talking, and ringing in the millennium surrounded by my precious family. Kathryn was not as good as before but she was alive, and everyone else in that ward also got to go home.  That doesn’t happen very often.  It also happens for a reason……

For the following three years Kathryn recuperated and learned a very valuable lesson, that is, “your health is your wealth”.  She thinks that everyone needs a little shake up now and again to help us appreciate what is here in front of us and that is, a wonderful life.  Make the best of it because you may not get a second chance and also you don’t have to be old to die.

Not long after her illness her husband Paul just got rid of my clinics and the Nutron business.  He realised that if he didn’t she would be at it again before long!

Three years later Kathryn was introduced to a company called Nikken.  It is Japanese. These wellness products helped her tremendously.  After using them she no longer stammered and stuttered.  They also improved her memory and she began to really take control of both her own, and her family’s health.  Kathryn feels that you and only you are responsible for your health.  Not your doctor or consultant, You! We have to do our bit and when real illness comes your way the medication can really kick in and help.  Over a period of six years she has created her own wellness home in Galway. In it we breathe mountain fresh air, bathe and drink clean living spring well water, and sleep in beds that gently detoxify, heal, and rejuvenate their bodies.  Kathryn believes in  preventing illness.  Her family no longer suffer from colds and flu etc and they use very little medication anymore.

The only part of their wellness Kathryn was missing was thier diet, or in other words, the processed foods that they were eating were undoing all the good in other areas of their lives.  In February this year Kathryn received a phone call from her good friend Fionnuala who was enquiring as to where the NuTron diet was now that two of her friends wanted to do it and cutting a long story short, this was the beginning of the rejuvenation of NuTron.  NuTron Advanced was born. Kathryn's vision is that people will turn to NuTron to help them control their inflammatory conditions such as IBS, Diverticulitis, Asthma, migraine, depression and many others.
